The Music page.

Since I was about 14 years old I have been listening to many types of music. From Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and other such earlier Rock and Rollers, and later ones like The Stray Cats, Dr. Feelgood, (the louder) George Thorogood and up through to The Pink Floyd, The Who, Led Zeppelin and Iron Butterfly era, and right up to the Oasis and The Verve era and beyond.

My CD collection and music DVD collection has grown quickly, especially after I discovered Ebay. Earlier music was collected on good old vinyl, in 7 inch and 12 inch varieties. Still have some of them in good condition too, I have recently purchased a record deck to play these disks on. Some have been replaced by CD's though. I have a number of albums in 12" Vinyl format and I hope to transfer these to mp3 & CD soon.

My CD collection has exhibits from The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Dylan, Jethro Tull, Al Stewart, The Corrs, Santana, Van Morrison, George Thorogood and loads more. I am an ageing rocker after all...

I like music based on the guitar. I now have more guitars than I need so I am trying to thin down my collection now. When I first started playing many years ago my elder brother taught me 3 chords: C, F & G major, and left the rest to me. I've gone a long, long way since then.

My electric guitars are:

Pics of some of the music kit have been removed by myself during a site update in Feb 2009.

Fender Stratocaster (Cream), a couple of Black Fender Strat Replicas, a Gibson ES-335 styled guitar made by a company named "Rally" a Wine Red Epiphone SG Special and last but by no means least (as they say) a new addition was the Double neck guitar made for me by H&S Guitars in Germany. That's enough for now, I can only play one at a time. I have recently purchased a Fender Telcaster guitar, which needs some upgrading and I've also added a Gibson SG guitar as well..

Along the way I have purchased a Behringer MX2004A, a 20 Channel mixer along with a rack mountable Peavey PV231EQ (Graphic Equaliser) and a rack mount Zoom 1201 Effects processor with a couple of Carlsbro 300W PA amps (150W per side) and a few bundles of cables here & there. I also built a rack cabinet to fit some of this stuff into. It's getting more serious as the weeks go by and I got back into it once again. Another small cabinet was built with a Guitar Processor with the second Carlsbro Powerline 300 PA amp rack mounted in.

I have a Carlsbro Stingray 100W lead Combo amp which I bought for a Tenner in a second hand shop and works well. It's probably 30+ years old but sounding quite nice. Its rather heavy though. I also use 2 x 10Watt Fender Squier practice amps. These are easier to move about. The Fender amps are used together through a Zoom GFX-1 Multi effects unit which has a stereo output which feeds the 2 Fender amps nicely. Not sure if it sounds better than one though, I've not heard it in anything larger than the bedroom as yet. The Carlsbro amp has a line out socket on the rear panel, so I recently hooked this up to one of the 10Watt Fender amps, as a Monitor, this seemed to work but needs some more experimenting with though. A long way from the 2x100Watt FAL/CMI stackthat I used a few years ago. As if I need an excuse to experiment with the Fenders anyway... I also have a couple of amps which I could use for a PA system, a 60Watt jobbie which was home built by another local radio user to his own design, I shall use this to feed a monitor speaker sometime. I also have a few Mic stands and some Mics and cables and the 20 Channel Mixer. I am looking for a 24 channel or larger mixer on Ebay regularly. I have a pair of reclaimed 12" speakers in 15" cabs which were found in my bin shed a few years ago, not sure what they are rated as power wise but they handle 50Watts with ease. A lucky find indeed.

I have recently added some more amps to the line up. A few H&H amps:

H&H 100W Combo 2x12.
H&H 100W PA amp.
H&H 100W Slave amp.
H&H 100W Guitar amp.
H&H 100W Monitor amp.

With the above combinations I can rig up a guitar amp or a PA system with 6x 100W speakers quite quickly.

I also can use some Marshall amplifiers (S80)8240 Stereo Chorus combo and another nice find which is a Marshall MG100 HDFX and a 4x12 (VS412) Lead Cabinet.

The Carlsbro Combo amp.
Anyone having any information about the Carlsbro Stingray 100Watt Lead Combo Amp please contact me by email (mick@g6asj.co.uk) I'd like to learn more about this amp. I can find vey little about it on the internet. I replaced the controls on the front panel. I got a very loud crackle from some of the pots sometimes. I've never ran this amp at it's full 100W rating so I don't know how it performs. I would like to though. It has 2 switchable channels with plenty of settings and a reverb...
